It’s May 1st and “May Day” in parts of the country.
With the snow gone and warmer temperature, this means there will be alot of events happening all over Ottawa!
There is one event that is fun to catch and it is the Ottawa Rock Lottery.

Since it’s start in 2008, new bands have formed, record labels created and businesses successfully launched all through the connectivity and community of the Ottawa Rock Lottery, which makes Saturday, May 18th at Mavericks a coveted gig indeed.
Ottawa Rock Lottery is sticking to the same names-out-of-a-hat band formula with net proceeds going to the Ottawa Food Bank, but this time the bands get a birthday present from us: a chance of winning a recording session with award-winning producer Steve Foley at Audio Valley Recording Studio (Big Boi,Tiga).
HOW IT WORKS
On Friday, May 17th, 25 local musicians from a variety of genres and bands will throw their names into a hat to be randomly grouped into 5 news bands.
Each new band has 24 hours to create a 20- to 30-minute set of all original music.
Anything goes and it all comes down to luck of the draw—indie rockers might be paired with hip-hop rappers, a violinist and two drummers.
It could be great, or it could be awful. Either way it will be a blast for musicians and audience alike and a one of a kind, not-to-be-missed event that any local music lover will appreciate.
This year’s Rock Lottery includes:
- 2013 Bluesfest performers: Fevers, Goodluck Assembly, Loon Choir, Riishi Von Rex
- Viral video sensations Kalle Matteson
- TBA Juno-award winner
- Band instrument wildcard
- Audience “Lottery” for incredible door prizes (designer clothes and even a tattoo)
- Rock and Roll Photobooth with Rubicon Photography
- Web video commercial, “Rock Stars Getting Ready” from award-winning filmmaker Shooter McNally and Split Pro Photography launches: Tuesday, May 7 at 10 a.m.
