I was surprised when this act was announced at this year’s Ottawa Bluesfest.
I am talking about U.S. Girls from Toronto.
Having seen her play at a basement show last year.
I was very curious to how she will play in a outdoor setting.
Despite the heat, I actually stayed for the whole set at the River Stage.

For that don’t know, U.S. Girls is basically a solo female act named Meghan Remy.
The music is very much experimental lo-fi pop.
Think of it as a female version of Dirty Beaches but without the use of guitars and uses cassette tapes for that lo-fi/weird sounds.
She came on stage with a turban.
Very unique and cool.
She did her cover of Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine.
Of course I couldn’t help but sway back and forth to that song.
There was a 1960s pop sound and with the use of the Little Peggy March’s I Will Follow Him.
I really enjoyed her set despite having around 20 people there.
It may have been to weird for some people who just stumbled at the River Stage.
I can’t wait for the new album in the fall.
Here are the rest of the photos.
