Axé WorldFest ended their 2nd edition of Women in Music & Arts at the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage with a wonderful show by Zaki Ibrahim, iskwē and Turkwaz.
All I have say that Zaki got everyone on their feet dancing to her music of R&B, Soul and Dance music.
Lovely to see Zaki and her bandmates wearing silk pyjamas on stage.
I was very surprised to see Tanika Charles accompanying Zaki too.
What a fun show!
Second was iskwē and it was my first time.
I was in awe with this beautiful and magical set since iskwē was accompanied by a four-string quartet.
Reminded me of Basia’s new album The Garden and Björk and The Brodsky Quartet.
While the new materials won’t have the intimate strings arrangement on the album, it was definitely a memorable show.
Kicking off the show was Toronto’s Turkwaz.
Performing tracks from all over the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans with that folky world vibe.
