Belgrave [EP Review]

The first time I saw Belgrave live was at the Raw Sugar Cafe on Sept 4, 2010.
Now the Montreal band has finally dropped their self-titled EP.
For those that don’t know the band consist of sibling/cousins of:

  • Trevor Boucher
  • Liam Boucher
  • Michael Bufo
  • Catherine Cere
  • Jonathan Powter

For those wondering who the cousin is, it is Catherine Cere.
From reading their press release.
I was intrigued that Trevor who is the lead vocalist is a elementary school teacher, Catherine is a nurse and surprisingly that Liam is a fashion model (who knew!).
Belgrave @ Raw Sugar Cafe
Listening to the whole EP, there is that distinct indie pop rock. More on the likes of the British sound of the Smiths in the tracks, Distance and Perfect Hands.
There is a surprise guest and help from their cousin Pietro Amato (The Luyas and Bell Orchestre) in Perfect Hands and Six Minutes.
With the help from Juno award winning producer Joseph Donovan who has worked with Sam Roberts.
Their production couldn’t sound any better, coming from a new band.

There is something about Six Minutes that has that ambiance which I can’t stop listening to.

Best tracks:

  • Distance
  • Tokyo
  • Perfect Hands
  • Six Minutes

I’d give the EP 8.5/10
You should definitely check this band out!
