This is a revisited album review from 2010.
The summer is upon us.
I should have done a review of this album ages ago but now it is the right time.
I feel this album has been overlooked and should get the attention it deserves.
While we wait for album #2 for this act.
I am talking about Blue Hawaii‘s Blooming Summer.
For those that don’t know, Blue Hawaii is Alex Cowan (Agor) and Raphaelle Standell-Preston (Braids).
If you are a fan of Braids, you should check out this album.

Originally Blooming Summer came out in 2010 on cassette tape and digital.
But with the success of Braids and the label Arbutus Records doing well.
The album got breath of new life with it’s album being release on CD last year.
The re-release features two bonus tracks one is a remix of Dream Electrixra by the defunct band Silly Kissers.
The story about Blooming Summer goes as this:
Blooming Summer is a reference of the pairs’ travels through tropical Central America – but written and recorded in the harsh Montreal winter.
Think of this as Braids gone dance-electronica and without the use of guitars (Minus the track Blue Gowns).
What I love about this album is that it is fun and chillaxing to listen to.
Makes you want to go out to the beach and sip on a nice icy drink.
Everytime I listen to this album, it gets old.
I swear, the lyrics Raphaelle sings and the music of Alex are so catchy and amazing.
I don’t know how both can make such a underrated but superior luscious dream dance-pop album.
You should definitely get this album right now while summer is blooming. 😛
Best tracks:
- Lilac
- Dream Electrixra
- Blue Gowns
- Belize
- Castle of Clouds
- Lonelyhearts
- Floral
On this revisited review of Blooming Summer, I’d give it a 9.5/10.
