Bonjay – Broughtupsy [Review]

I certainly got my groove on listening to Broughtupsy which is the latest EP from Ottawa/Toronto duo Bonjay.
2010 has been a great year for Bonjay.
CBC named them one of  the ten bands/musicians destined to break in 2010.
More recently they were ranked #12 in i(heart)music’s “2010 Hottest Bands in Canada“ (which was more of a surprise!).
For those that may not know, Bonjay is an spice island slang for “Good God!”

Having only seen them once at Bandsundone.
They will be playing at the Mercury Lounge on November 12th.
Whenever the duo will release a full-length.
Having only released one single which is Gimmee Gimmee
Boughtupsy will do for now.
The EP was dropped on October 5, 2010.
It is six tracks of infectious electro-dancehall beats.
What is so unique about Bonjay is how well mesh Pho and Alanna are.
You have Pho who does the groovy beats and Alanna with her amazing vocals.
There is no denying they will get you dancing to their blend of Dancehall, Reggae Dub and R&B and Funk.
Listening to the EP sort of reminds me of M.I.A. when not being a potty mouth or pushing the envelope.
Catchy and fun EP.
Being an EP, I’d give Broughtupsy 10/10.
