The wait was over on May 21, 2016. Bar Robo is the new venue that formally took over Raw Sugar Cafe held their first live music show presented by Debaser.
It was definitely a jam packed show with the likes of Brave Radar, Homebody, WHIMM and Telecomo.
It’s been awhile since Montreal’s Brave Radar has performed in Ottawa. It was fitting for them to play the first show at Bar Robo. The band played materials from their upcoming Lion Head. I like to call their music catchy minimal pop music. Such an underrated band and you should check them out!Denver’s Homebody was the third band to perform. I enjoyed their post pop hazy rock music.This was WHIMM’s first Ottawa show. Some of the members have played in Ottawa before in other bands. I really liked their set this time (last time was in Montreal at an after hours show in a sketchy venue).The first band to perform was Ottawa’s Telecomo. This was the third time I’ve seen them play in the last two months. This was their best one yet since they recorded materials for their upcoming EP and probably got some advice from their recordings in New York City.
Overall it was great to have a venue back up and running with a total make over.
Great sound, space, foods and drinks.
Only thing I recommend is probably the lighting on the stage for those wanting to do social media.
Having the community be happy and supporting Ottawa’s arts and culture scene.
