I had a wonderful night at the Black Sheep Inn seeing two great bands.
They were:
- Land Of Talk
- Adam & The Amethysts
- Cornerphone
- Megnetic Hill
- Yuppy Flu
- Summer Special
- Seaform
- Some Are Lakes
- May You Never
- Troubled
- It’s Okay
- Young Bridge
- Street Wheel
- Speak To Me Bones
I want to say thank you to Alex of the Ottawa band Trees for giving me a ride down to the venue.
Got there very early and the doors didn’t open until 7:30pm
I did get to say hi to Elizabeth Powell and she was happy that I could make it.
They left to get something to eat.
The turnout was great for the show.
There were some people I knew who were at the show and it was great evening.
The first act was Adam & The Amethysts.
It was just Adam and a cello player (Did not know her name is).
The set was more acoustic considering some of the members are busy and away.
It was a nice change for his music and suited very well at the Black Sheep Inn.
I still haven’t got a chance to get his album.
Land Of Talk was up.
I haven’t seen the band play in the Ottawa area since Bluesfest in 2009.
They started off with “Cornerphone” and it was a fun rocking track and Adam Waito (Adam & The Amethysts) helped out on that song.
They sang a mix of materials from Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, Some Are Lakes and Fun & Laughter.
There was no new material but it was not a big deal since I was already glad they were playing whatever songs.
I was not aware that the music video “It’s Okay” is nominated for Juno Awards for Best Music Video.
Very surprised on the older tracks she sang like Megnetic Hill, Summer Special, Seaform, Street Wheels and Speak To Me Bones
She mentioned she couldn’t sing them because of her throat which probably healed up after the surgery.
Liz and the band put on a great rocking set.
Here is the setlist:
The encore she sang a cover of Big Star’s Thirteen.
It was a nice cover Liz and the band did.
After the show ended.
I got a chance to chat with Elizabeth.
She mentioned that the new album will be out in August.
Overall I was happy to see Land Of Talk play live.
It was a great show and they never disappoint.
