It’s the first day of September and we have to say goodbye to the summer and welcoming in the fall and people getting back to their normal days.
With all of that I should try and review Summer of Lust by Library Voices.
Summer of Lust is their second album and follow-up to their popular Demin on Demin.
They are already getting wider recognition through their live shows.
A band from Regina, they surely know how to have fun and rock out.
Summer of Lust is 12 tracks filled with upbeat energetic rock tunes.
There are some tracks that has that bendy spacey electronic sound in Traveller’s Digest & Reluctant Readers Make Reluctant Lovers and Anthem For A New Canadia.
Also the usual saxophone (which seems to be popular these days) in Me, Myself and ID.
There is a somewhat mellow 60s rock track in Be My Juliette Gréco, Paris 1949.
Anthem For A New Canadia reminds me of the 1960s big rocking jump and jive sound.
Glad they kept The Prime Minister’s Daughter in the album since it is the only song in Summer Of Lust that is very political.
Since the Harper government has cut back on the arts funding.
While the album ends with Regina I Don’t Want To Fight which is a open letter to their hometown of Regina.
Lyrically and musically Summer Of Lust is very impressive from this big band.
The whole album does have that fun summer feel.
It was cute they added a intro and outro to it having a somewhat “conceptual” feel.
Best tracks:
- If Raymond Carver Were Born In The 90’s
- Generational Handclap
- Reluctant Readers Make Reluctant Lovers
- Que Sera Sarah
- Traveller’s Digest
- The Prime Minister’s Daughter
- Me, Myself, and ID
- Anthem For A New Canadia
- Regina I Don’t Want To Fight
Summer of Lust (I think) is going to put them on the map.
A album I didn’t expect to be that great!
I’d give Summer of Lust 9.5/10
