Recently, Montreal-based singer-songwriter, film composer, and pianist Patrick Watson released the music video which was filmed in a painter’s studio in Paris (Studio Alterio of artist Ruben Alterio), overlooking Montmartre. for “Silencio” via Secret City Records.
This piano-driven piece showcases Watson’s signature ability to craft delicate, evocative atmospheres.
What truly elevates “Silencio,” though, is the hauntingly beautiful vocal contribution from November Ultra, whose voice melds seamlessly with Watson’s piano melodies, adding a layer of emotional depth and intimacy.
While doesn’t have the gravitas like “A Mermaid in Lisbon” but still a moving emotional song.
About the track by Patrick:
“Silencio” will be part of a larger album project that Watson has been finishing, inspired by his missing voice, with more details to be announced soon.
‘I think you like me better since I lost my voice,’ Watson sings, over a mysterious and ethereal orchestration of arpeggiating guitars, softly touched drums, piano and burbling synths. He wrote the song with longtime collaborator, co-writer and bandmate Mishka Stein and November Ultra.
“Silencio” is sung in both Spanish and English, with November Ultra starting the song with her otherworldly and delicate vocals. Watson describes the process of making it as “magical.” “Her wonderful wit and beautifully soft caring tone were very inspiring. The song just kind of wrote itself, AS THOUGH IT WAS A CONVERSATION WE HAD BEEN HAVING OUR WHOLE LIVES. It was lovely,” he says.
