Ra Ra Riot – Beta Love [Review]

Was very lucky to see Ra Ra Riot play in Ottawa on October 7, 2011.
I really like their orchestral pop-rock music.
On January 22nd they will drop their third album Beta Love out on Barsuk (USA and Europe), Hostess K.K. (Japan) and Arts & Crafts (Canada).
It’s a follow up to their 2010 album “The Orchard”
From what I’ve read that it is a departure from their previous efforts and cellist Alexandra Lawn left the band in 2012.
Beta Love clocks in at around 30 minutes with eleven tracks.
While I got the Japanese version which has nine bonus tracks, two extra tracks and seven live tracks from NANO-MUGEN CIRCUIT in 2010

Upon listening to Beta Love, not sure if they are taken a step forward or taking a chance with this synth-pop sound.
Felt like listening to either Passion Pit or Naked & Famous.
Beta Love left me scratching my head and baffled to this new sound.
Most of the songs in the album are very short which they clock around 2-3 minutes.
It’s still a enjoyable album filled with upbeat, fun and catchy lyrical tunes.

Best tracks:

I’d give Beta Love 7/10.
