Debaser presented a stunningly intimate night of avant-garde and experimental music at Glebe-St. James United Church, featuring performances by LSD Trio and the Satoko Fujii Tokyo Trio.
I was completely in awe of the Satoko Fujii Tokyo Trio — a whirlwind of avant-garde experimental jazz that felt both visceral and transcendent. Watching Satoko Fujii attack the piano — slamming the keys, reaching into the wires — was a sound experience like no other.
She pushed the instrument to its limits while Takashi Sugawa’s cello and Ittetsu Takemura’s dynamic drumming completed the trio’s unpredictable and gripping sonic journey.
By the end of the performance, Satoko was visibly moved — overwhelmed with gratitude to be back in Ottawa and to feel the audience’s deep appreciation for the music. It was a night of fearless sound exploration, and one I won’t soon forget.
Kicking off the show was LSD Trio which consist of Linsey Wellman on baritone saxophone, pedals; Scott Warren, tape loops, electronics, percussion; and David Jackson on guitar, modular synth, laptop.
Set filled with a soundscape of Experimental Electroacoustic and Improvised music.
