It was 2018 at FME and it was the first time that I saw Montreal band TEKE:TEKE.
I was blown away by the 7 piece band from Montreal that performs with a Shinobue which is a traditional Japanese Bamboo flute, a Taisho Koto and a trombone alongside fuzzy guitars and a rhythm section to create a sound throwback of 1960s & 1970s era psychedelic Japanese soundtracks to the current sounds of indie rock and punk.
The band finally dropped their debut album Shirushi via Kill Rock Stars.
Sung mostly in Japanese, it just amazes me that this is coming out in Canada (well Montreal mostly) of all places.
Couldn’t come out at a better for Asian Heritage Month.
