The Besnard Lakes – The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night (Review)

The 2010 Polaris Music Prize will happen on September 20th.
I have decided to review and repost the ten nominated albums in contention. (Only albums I need to listen is Karkwa, Radio Radio, The Sadies and Tegan & Sara)
The first will be The Besnard Lakes‘s The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night.
The album was released on March 9, 2010.

The album picks up after The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse.
More of the indie post rock and psychedelic style.
There is a bit of Sigur Ros when you listen Chicago Train which feels like a journey.
The album is more atmospheric, epic and spacious.
On Polaris: Being nominated in 2007 and losing out to Patrick Watson.
My prediction is that there might be a 80% they will win.
The reason it will win is the album is tight and production is well done.
The reason it may not win probably due to some of the tracks are long.
If they win they will be the second band and second act from Quebec to win the prize.

Best tracks:

  • Like the Ocean, Like the Innocent Pt. 2: The Innocent
  • Chicago Train

  • [audio:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4791237/Glass%20Printer.mp3]
  • Land of Living Skies Pt.2: The Living Skies
  • And This Is What We Call Progress

If I rate this, it would be a 8/10.
