The Concretes, Hooray for Earth & Birthday Girls @ Mavericks [January 18, 2011]

On January 18th I went up to Mavericks to see:

I was very curious to see The Concretes and Hooray For Earth since Ottawa rarely gets out of towner play here.

Despite the horrible weather, some people did manage to show up for this show.
With a small crowd, I was like think of it as a small private party.

The show started off with Ottawa’s Birthday Girls
This was my first time seeing them live.
They were pretty rocking it with their electro-rock set.
Loud at some parts but it was a interesting set with the laser lights.
Check out my review of their EP.

Hooray For Earth was up next.
Some people I know told me good things about them.
The first song they started off had that Jesus and Mary Chain inspired sound.
Then later on they picked it up and got more upbeat and dancey.
They were pretty good and I had great time dancing to their music.
Wished they played more.

I only stayed for the first three songs for The Concretes.
They were pretty great live.
Their music was pretty catchy, poppy.
Should have stayed longer.
