Villagers – I Want What I Don’t Need [Music Video]

Dublin’s multi-talented artist Conor O’Brien, known as Villagers, has just unveiled the lyrically rich music video for “I Want What I Don’t Need”. This release marks the third single from his upcoming album of the same name, scheduled to grace our ears on May 10, 2024, courtesy of Domino Recordings.

In this latest offering, O’Brien delivers an intimate and enchanting orchestral pop folk tune that captivates with its dreamy allure. With delicate instrumentation and poignant lyricism, “I Want What I Don’t Need” effortlessly showcases Villagers’ ability to craft emotionally resonant melodies that linger long after the music fades.
About the track by Conor:
“It’s a little tragicomedy about the concept of free will, intellectual humility and the commodification of sacred things.
As with all the songs from the album, a yearning for transcendence at the dawn of the internet age is at its core.

We’re constantly being bombarded by ideas, images and products telling us that our internal directives are insufficient; that we need external support or validation in order to become whole beings.
The song pokes fun at this: And I’ll wed myself to my beliefs / And they’ll harden like my arteries / And I’ll take myself so seriously / And I’ll want what I don’t need.”
