Young Galaxy‘s fourth album, “Ultramarine,” dropped on April 23, 2013.
I’ve been a fan of their music since they released “Invisible Republic” back in 2009.
It wasn’t until 2011, with the release of “Shapeshifting,” that they changed direction in their music, embracing an electronic and synthpop route.
I doubt they will read this review, but I hope they like what I have to say about “Ultramarine.”
It took me a while to get this down and posted!
“Ultramarine” is still a great album to listen to, thanks in part to Dan Lissvik for helping them out again.
It brings out that dynamic sound that fans love. Catherine McCandless is front and center on “Ultramarine.”
I wish Stephen Ramsay would sing on this album (I love him on the song “The Angels Are Surely Weeping”).
“Ultramarine” is not as heavy with its electro sound as “Shapeshifting.” Instead, it has more of a dreamlike electro-Europop feel.
The tracks that I feel have oomph with the electronic beats are “Pretty Boy,” “Out the Gate Backwards,” and “Privileged Poor.” Meanwhile, you have summery, lie-on-the-beach tracks like “New Summer,” “Hard to Tell,” “In Fire,” and “Sleepwalk With Me.”
“Ultramarine” makes me want to go down to Europe for the summer. I’m glad they are following through with this style of music.
