One of the highlights from this year’s Ottawa Folk Festival on August 27th was seeing Basia Bulat.
When I heard she was going to play at this year’s festival, I was so overwhelmed and finally her music can fit well with that kind of genre and atmosphere.
She happened to play on the Ravenlaw Stage.
She definitely drew a big crowd despite the loudness from Tom Morello.
She hasn’t played since the winter time but definitely an amazing musician to catch live.
Even I can’t stop posting good things about her on this site.
In total she sang 15 songs.
She had her backing band (Holly, Allison, Bobby and Ben [from New Country Rehab]) one member Shaun Brodie who played the horns.
The show started off with Basia doing a solo on the Charango with “It Can’t Be You”.
Wow that song bought chills down my spine.
Hope that makes it on the new album.
Then she had the band come it on.
Loved hearing Go On and Snakes and Ladders.
The audience still did the clap along to Before I Knew.
Basia did something different this time which was have Allison and Holly sing all in one mic.
It was something to see hear and see.
Surprised that she sang that Polish song about the zoo and peopled loved it.
Then she got things going and bought out the autoharp at the end with In The Night and I Was A Daughter.
Overall it was a enjoyable show and what the Folk Festival needed!!
