Have to say that on December 11th, it was a totally busy day/night.
After Bands Undone, I headed off to the CBC building down on Spark Street.
There was a live event happening outside in the bitterly cold for CBC Radio 1’s All In A Day.
Special treat was a live performance by Jim Bryson and The Mighty Popo.
There was a bid for the charity to have Jim Bryson sing whatever song the bidder wanted him to sing.
He sang Billy Joel’s Scenes From An Italian Restaurant in under 5 minutes .
The last song was The Wishes Pile Up.
There was a great turnout for those that wanted to see Jim sing live despite being very cold outside.
Then the Mighty Popo played and got everyone on their feet dancing and the audience singing along to their songs.
After the CBC event, I headed off the National Arts Centre.
Thanks to Mother Mother’s tour manager, they got me a guestlist spot for the show.
But I didn’t take any photos and just enjoy the show.
It was a sold out show well there were two empty seats besides me.
Opening up for Matthew Good, it wouldn’t hurt just to see them at that venue and it was my first time seeing a concert at the NAC.
Had an amazing time seeing Mother Mother.
They sang a new song and the rest were from Oh My Heart and one from their debut album Touch Up which was of course Touch Up.
Very soon that band will be very popular once they release their third album.
Matthew Good, all I can say is I didn’t really feel connected to his live show.
I was not familiar to any of his songs.
I stood up when the crowds stood up during the lively rock tracks he sang.
He did do some bantering but they were very political and I was like “what the hell is he talking about?”
That is all I have to say for his set.
Lastly I headed up to Avant-Garde bar.
It was Bear Claps final show because one of the member is leaving Ottawa.
Missed out the other bands that were playing like New Teeth and Ornaments.
I was very surprised that there were alot of people there.
It was a fun crazy set the trio did.
Apparently the venue was triple booked so most of the bands playing had to shorten their set.
How crazy is that?
I enjoyed their set and grabbed Bear Clap’s CD.
So that was my crazy Friday night.
