Favorite Christmas UK #1 2011 Edition [Top 11]

Holiday flowers
Merry Christmas Eve everyone!!
Come tomorrow will be Christmas Day.
This year it falls on a Sunday and in the UK has to be the most important day for the music industry.
It is having the Christmas #1 song.
I noticed I haven’t don’t my favorite Christmas #1 since 2008.
So why not update my favorite songs that made it to #1 on Christmas day/week.
There are some songs that have a festive theme and some not.
Not going to add in of the Simon Cowell’s garbage that started since 2002.
There will be some songs that hasn’t changed but added new ones.
Check out my Top 11.

11. Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman – Somethin’ Stupid (2001)
Love this cover and the music video is so tongue and cheek.

10. East 17 – Stay Another Day (1994) [#10 from previous ranking]
Something about the bells in the song.
Check out this remix by Frank Eddie of Stay Another Day. Very dubsteppy!

9. Spice Girls – Goodbye (1998) [#4 from previous ranking]
Their third Christmas #1.
Its their first song where they are a foursome.

8. Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody (1975 & 1991) [#9 from previous ranking]
I just have to put this on the list.

7. Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name (2009)
Thanks to a grassroots campaign. This broke the streak from the whole X-Factor that dominated the Christmas #1s in previous years.

6. Michael Andrews and Gary Jules – Mad World (2003) [#8 from previous ranking]
Who would have thought the movie Donnie Darko which is now a cult classic, made this Christmas #1 in 2003.
Considering the tone of the song and originally sung by Tears For Fear.
One of the best Christmas #1 because you never know what would be #1 except now that X-Factor has taken over for the past 5 years.

5. Pet Shop Boys – Always On My Mind (1987) [#6 from previous ranking]
Who thought this cover would turn a Elvis track into a dance pop track.
This song kept The Pogue’s Fairytales Of New York (now a Christmas tradition in the UK) from being #1.

4. The Beatles – I Want To Hold Your Hand – I Want To Hold Your Hand (1963) [#5 from previous ranking]
My favorite song by them.
Didn’t know it was considered a Christmas #1 song back in the 1960s.

#3. Spice Girls – 2 Become 1 (1996) [#3 from previous ranking]
Their first Christmas #1.
Its such a nice song which has that wintery feel.

#2 – Flying Pickets – Only You (1983) [#2 from previous ranking]
I didn’t know this song was a Christmas #1.
Not until Wong Kar Wai used this song at the end of his movie Fallen Angels (Which has to be simply the best ending of all Hong Kong films).

#1 Band Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas? (1984 Version) [#2 from previous ranking]
In my opinion, this has to be the best #1 Christmas single.
The title says it all and the money went to aid for Africa.
