I’ve been meaning to write something on this band for quite some time.
Its autumn right now and you should try and check out the London, Ontario band Olenka and the Autumn Lovers.
Having seen them live once on October 27, 2009 at Raw Sugar Cafe.
Something about their music is just captivating.
Probably due to lead singer’s Olenka Krakus sultry smoky voice.
When she sing it reminds me of a mix between Cat Powers and Feist.
Their music is a blend indie folk alt-rock with some orchestral & gypsy sound.
This year at NXNE they made a splash *press wise* with their show at the Gladstone which I sadly missed out.
The band has released one full-length and two EPs.
I have the Papillionette EP.

Its six tracks filled with great indie folk alt rock bluesy pop songs.
My favorite has to be the beginning track called “Flash In The Pan”.
The intimate vocals of Olenka just oozes of a heartbreak gone horribly wrong.
While you the track Papillon which is sung in French.
It has that “Je ne sais quoi” feel to it.
Great intimate acoustic and orchestral pop style in the EP.
Best tracks:
- Flash In The Pan
- Blue
- Papillon [audio:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4791237/03%20Papillon.mp3]
- 45
- The Decline
At the end you are truly drawn into the music of Olenka and the Autumn Loves.
If I rate this EP, it would be a 9.5/10
