Today is a big surprise!
The band formerly Topanga just changed it’s name to Pup.
It’s mostly because the Disney Channel is reviving/rebooting the series.
The band didn’t want to get into a big legal mess on the name.
Anyways check out their new song as Pup called “Lionheart”
Hope the band will stop in Ottawa in the future.
Here is a statement from their Facebook fanpage.
Two years ago, when we originally decided to name ourselves Topanga, we thought it was great – she was our first middle-school crush, and it felt cool and nostalgic. But as many of you probably know, Disney has decided to re-launch this Boy Meets World / Girl Meets World, whatever-the-fuck-the-show-is-called-now series.
Like many of our other precious memories, Disney has swallowed a piece of our childhood, and puked it back up like the Play-Doh of our nightmares. Topanga is now just a washed-up character in some kind of Jonas Brothers / Hannah Montana horseshit. We really don’t want to associate ourselves with Disney – I’m sure you can all understand that.
Ultimately, the corporate gutting of our teenage love AND her name, Topanga, won’t stop us. We really believe in our band, and we love playing music together. So, we’ve moved past the frustration, and have chosen a name we all truly love and believe in. Fuck Disney, and fuck Topanga. WE ARE PUP. Let’s do this.
We want to thank you guys for your support over the past 2 years. We’ve had a ton of fun touring, raging, quitting our day jobs, puking behind dumpsters and disappointing our parents. Now, as PUP, we have some real shit planned. Not the least of which is releasing a new record produced by one of our all-time heroes, Dave Schiffman (Weezer, The Bronx, The Mars Volta). It will be coming out soon, and we are INSANELY proud of it. We can’t wait for you to hear it.
We hope you’ll stick it out and continue supporting us through this name change.
The important thing to remember is this:
We are the same band.
We are the same dudes.
We are playing the same music, and it’s onwards and upwards from here.
We’re just excited to get back to the important stuff: playing shows, drinking beers, having fun, and ripping it up with you guys.
