Took me awhile to get Toronto’s Hooded Fang‘s 2011 album Tosta Mista reviewed.
It’s one of those slow burning albums to get me focused on the albums that need to be reviewed on here.
When this album was dropped, it was kind of a surprise for some people because the band had recently released their debut full-length simply titled Hooded Fang Album in 2010.
What sets this apart from the last album (besides the quick release) is how different the sound and style is.
Hooded Fang Album was catchy, fun and had a sleek studio sound.
Tosta Mista feels like they have went into a lo-fi summer surfy pop sound.
With ten tracks, the running time is about 23 minutes.
Most of the tracks are short, but are great indie pop songs.
Songs like ESP and Tosta Mista make you want to do that summer beach dance, while you want to do a slow dance with someone to Den of Love.
I find this is more of a Daniel driven album since Lorna doesn’t sing as much on it.
Whatever the direction Hooded Fang was going on this album, it is still a great album to listen to.
They are such an underrated band and deserve a lot of attention.
