In Media Res – It Was Warm And Sunny When We First Set Out [Streaming]

I shouldn’t judge an album by its cover—you never really know how good or bad the music will be until you press play.
That was certainly the case with Vancouver’s In Media Res.

At first glance, the album cover looks like something pulled straight from an awkward family photo album.
Still, curiosity got the better of me. With the band signed to File Under: Music—home to artists like Graham Wright, Kathryn Calder, David Vertesi of Hey Ocean!, Dan Mangan (isn’t he on A&C?), and Blackie & The Rodeo—there had to be something worthwhile here.

Turns out, there definitely was. When In Media Res hit the stage at Raw Sugar Cafe on August 12, 2011, the room practically exploded—literally—with their loud, driving rock sound.
Any doubts raised by the album cover were instantly erased once the band started playing.

Here is a blurb about this album.
Three years in the making, It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out fuses many of the band’s influences; from Radiohead to Talk Talk, TV on the Radio to Destroyer, but retains a unique sound all its own.
I was really impress with this album.
I can see the Radiohead and TV On The Radio influences.
Filled with loud energetic rock sounds in “This Could Be The One, Come Back Down, Bears
To epic rock tracks in Slow Motion Clarity and Tonight I Am New.
Filled with emotions and not that generic rock sound that people would expect to come from this band.
