Jamie xx – In Colour [Review]

It is the half-way mark of 2015.
There has been some stellar albums that has dropped this year.
But none has been this remarkable on the album that I can’t stop listening to.

The long awaited debut full-length album by music producer extraordinaire Jamie xx has been shown the light of day.
Not counting We’re New Here which is basically a remix album with Gil Scott-Heron.
In Colour is a mix of electronic, future garage, house and UK garage.
While it won’t blast your ears away with its downtempo, mellow electronic music.
The album cover still maintains the lower left of the X dash with a very nice spectrum of the colours.

Gosh begins the album with it’s unique “Oh My Gosh” sample which quickly picks up half-way with it’s monstrous grinding machine sound.
The highlights on In Colour is with the vocal collaborations with his The xx bandmates.
Oliver singing on Stranger in a Room brings in the minimalistic electronic-dance.
It has a cold claustrophobic haunting vibe.
While Romy adds in the warm excitement on Loud Places which gets you dancing on your feet.
Obvs brings out the summery beach vibe.
While the album ends with electro-dance bass pumping Girl.

Overall I was overly impressed with In Colour.
One of those albums I can’t stop listening.
If you are into the electronic dance music or starting into it.
This is one album to get. (Definitely on vinyl)

    I freakin’ love this album so hard it hurts to even look at it without being able to touch it. I want it spinning on my turntable, I want that strange mingling of steel drum and abstract bass reverberating in my ears, I want to wake up with the album sleeve on my bedside table so it’s the first thing I see every day.

    Please, in the name of all that is holy, please let that happen.

    If Jamie xx were naked, I would clothe him.
    If Jamie xx were hungry, I would feed him.
    If Jamie xx were tired, I would give him a place to sleep.
    If Ming Wu gives me this LP, clothing, hunger and fatigue will mean nothing because I would be happy listening to In Colour 24 hours a day, naked, while I starve to death.
