Kristian North – Shadow Of The Pyramids [Music Video]

Today, Montreal’s Kristian North dropped the single and music video for Shadow Of The Pyramids.
The track is taken from the upcoming album Passion Play which comes out on April 30, 2021 via Mothland.
The song is a fun 80s-influenced ballady funky pop tune.

About the track:
As a full piece, the record takes a little from each of the decades with glimmers of butter-smooth 70s disco, 80s British new wave such as Prefab Sprout and Scritti Pollitti – this new cut arrives a loosely pyschdelic take from the record with a video directed by Beatrice Scharf-Pierzchala featuring the Montreal queen, The Olympia.

Whereas North’s debut, The Last Rock’n’Roll Record (which found him opening for The Sadies and Wolf Parade) took inspiration from 80’s excess, detective novels, and Z.A.Z comedies, each track on Passion Play presents its own idiosyncratic narrative of love which North eloquently ties together with this flamboyant new wave aesthetic.
The record acts as North’s most analogue release to-date, written entirely on piano with the aim of breaking the habits and patterns he formed previously by writing on guitar.

The piano challenged this method, whilst also experimenting with organs and synthesisers before laying the entire record, along with the help of producer, Renny Wilson, to one reel giving approximately 30 mins to compile.
