Pique #20

June 13, 2026 was a busy day for me as Debaser celebrated five years of Pique while kicking off the festival’s 20th edition across Arts Court, Club SAW, and the Ottawa Art Gallery.

There was also a special announcement from Rachel Weldon that the next edition of Pique on September 26, 2026 will be free, thanks in part to Ottawa 250 and Nuit Blanche Ottawa.

One of my favourite performances of the night was Phèdre, who performed outside Arts Court with their infectious electro-dance pop music. The crowd kept dancing throughout the set, even as the rain poured down.

Backxwash was, as always, an absolute blast with an intense and powerful mix of experimental electro-industrial hip-hop.

Cleo Reed delivered a captivating set blending folk, R&B, and soul while also previewing newer material that leaned more into breakbeat-inspired sounds.

Over at Alma Duncan, the dance party featured sets from Djeity, Hyd — accompanied by multimedia artist al11z — as well as sineila and fangsie! Before the party fully kicked off, sunken cages opened things up with an experimental mix of electronica, Indian folk influences, and other genre-bending sounds.

Elle Barbara was the sole performer at the Arts Court Theatre, delivering a captivating hour-and-ten-minute set showcasing her unique style and stage presence.

Due to the heavy rainstorm,
Raf Reza had to move inside Club SAW, where he delivered an electrifying electronica and dubstep set.

Emma Gabriel also brought plenty of energy with a vibrant alt-R&B and pop performance.

As always, Pique was an absolute blast and a perfect way to kick off the summer.
