Purity Ring, Blue Hawaii & Spaceandtime @ Ritual [April 2, 2013]

Did this show really happened on Tuesday night?
All of a sudden it felt like a Friday night show.
Went to a sold out show at Ritual.
For those that couldn’t get in, it was mind-blowing.
Playing at the show:

Blue Hawaii

Spaceandtime

Noticed that all three acts were all duo based!

The first act was Spaceandtime from Montreal.
They were a new act.
It was a mix of experimental electronica pop music.
A really unique set.

Second act was Blue Hawaii.
This was their first time playing Ottawa.
I was really excited to see them since it is Raph (Braids) side project.
Also a coincidence that Alex (Agor) opened up for Purity Ring last year at Cafe Dekcuf.
Blue Hawaii recently dropped their second album “Untogether”.
They mostly played tracks from it.
Before they started I and other people shouted “Dance Party!” and Raph asked what they wanted and surprisingly the audience wanted a dance party.
They started off slow then picked things up!
Despite being a short set, they totally tore the place down with a bass pumping dance party.
I felt like I was the only person dancing.
It was totally worth it!

Finally it was Purity Ring turn to light up (literally) the stage.
There was a high anticipation for them.
Since they had a wild 2012 when they dropped their debut album “Shrines”.
They had an amazing cocoon-like lights hanging on the stage.

A wonderful time dancing to their music!

They even did a cover of Soulja Boy’s Grammy (Haven’t heard the original but I love their version) which everyone went wild.
They didn’t preview any new song but mostly played from Shrines.
Totally enjoyed and danced to Crawlersout, Lofticries, Obedear, Shuck (Favorite track on the album) and Fineshrine.
Overall they blew the Ottawa audience away with their music and light show!

What is it about Montreal acts that we find so fascinating and love!?
