Ruby Coast – Whatever This Is [REVIEW]

Liza Liza Cover Art
The big news on January 18th was the release of the long-awaited Ruby Coast album “Whatever This Is“.

Ever since I first saw them open up for Tokyo Police Club at Barrymore’s on April 18, 2008.
At first I was wary of the album being free considering they put alot of hard work and effort making their full-length.
Case in point seeing them in Montreal last April at hotel2tango.
Free can be good sometimes and hopefully a physical copy would be available.
Whatever This Is is ten tracks of great catchy indie pop rock tunes.
The music is very high energy.
Lyrically it’s filled with mature themes of relationships, growing up and city/town life.

Here is some info tidbits.

  • Adan Nanji and Katrina Jones from The Belle Game helped out with group vocals and harmonies on Made to Change, Liza Liza and White Moon
  • Luke Lalonde (Born Ruffians) sings on the background vocals on I Live with Monsters
  • Charley Webb from the Webb Sisters and sings backup for Leonard Cohen, sang back up on Whatever This Is.

The band sure has changed since the Projectable Collections and self-titled EP.
Go and check out Whatever This Is for free on their Bandcamp site.

Best Tracks:

I’d give Whatever This Is a 9/10.
