His signature lo-fi production style remains, but here it’s bolstered by a newfound energy and groove.
Tracks pulse with vibrant instrumentation, layered vocals, and a sense of spontaneity that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
About the album by Sébastien:
All Cylinders is the golden and textured new album from one of Montreal’s most exciting up-and-coming talents.
The record is the ultimate introduction to Yves Jarvis, the moniker of singer-songwriter-producer Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet.
Despite the record not being first under the 28 year old’s discography, All Cylinders is Jarvis’s most precise and vulnerable body of work yet.
The title, in reference to an automobile’s engine, came in part from the process where Jarvis wrote, produced, and performed all 11 songs himself – without a single additional contributor, transforming his vision into a cosmic auditory anthology.
As always, Yves Jarvis is distinguished by his sound—a warm, vivid thing that feels at once like a handknit piece of fabric and a sheet of precious metal. He is dedicated to music that condenses folk, R&B, country, blues, Americana—with a touch that’s contemporary, even futuristic.
Jarvis is an omnivore, and All Cylinders smashes together a stunning array of influences: Serge Gainsbourg, Judee Sill, Sheryl Crow, Captain Beefheart, Jackson Browne, Throbbing Gristle, Ray Charles, Brian Eno, Fleetwood Mac, and Panic at the Disco. Jarvis distills these influences into tunes that feel like taking sips from a cup, or drags from a cigarette—vivid and self-contained tunes that are just two or three minutes long.
“I feel like this is the least contrived thing I’ve ever done,” Jarvis declares. Lyrics that matter. Vocals up front, where people will actually hear them.
“If something’s true to you,” he explains, “it’s probably true to a million other people.”
