Interview with Alyssa Reid

Alyssa Reid @ Bluesfest 2011
On Saturday at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest I was suppose to do a in person interview with Alyssa Reid.
But due to the heat from Saturday (which you will read), she wasn’t able to do the interview at the arrange time. (Due to the anticipation of DFA1979 set close to the time)
But I did manage to do a email interview.
Check out the interview.

How was your Bluesfest set?
The show went pretty well considering the intense heat. We had to cut it short a little bit because I got heatstroke half way through my set, but we still had a great time playing and I made it out alive!

I really love your version of Jessie J’s Price Tag. What made you decide to sing it?
Jessie J is an amazing vocalist and writer and I look up to her so much as an artist. The song itself is upbeat and has great meaning to it so it was an easy decision! I wanted to play something fun and different from my music that people would know and enjoy.

Was this your first time playing in Ottawa?
I played in Ottawa last year for the “Much music Soda Pop Tour” at the Centerpointe theatre. It was my first time travelling to Ottawa and it was great to be back because I got to see more of the city this time, and had an amazing dinner at the market!

Who are your musicial influences?
I grew up listening to jazz and blues, so I was influenced by Aretha and Etta James. As music evolved into the modern pop it is today, my most current influences are Christina Aguilera, Jessie J, and when writing, Taylor Swift.

What is your favorite song you like to perform live?
I love performing “Watch Me Soar”, because I get to bust out the guitar, but NOTHING beats hearing the crowd sing along to “Alone Again“.

What is your favorite venue?
I don’t really have a favourite venue that I have ever performed at. I have the honour of working with many amazing stage crew teams and that completely changes the show. Plus the intensity of the crowd. It doesn’t really matter where you play, if everybody is radiating energy and the sound is great, you know its going to be a good night.

Favorite formats of music, for example CDs, LPs, tapes or mp3s?
I love blasting CD’s in my car, but nothing beats the good ‘ol ipod.

Lastly since you played at Bluesfest, are there any Blues artist you like to listen?
I have always been a huge fan of blues, but it definitely made me miss some of the oldies.
