Jay Arner – Jay Arner [Review]

Jay Arner is a musician from Vancouver.
He just dropped his debut self-titled album on June 25, 2013 through Mint Records.
So I was curious on this album.
Don’t forget that Jay will be playing in Ottawa on August 6th.
More details go on here.

From what I read Jay wrote, performed, recorded and mixed everything on this album.
That is no feat coming from this talented musician.
This album has a mix of indie pop with psych (Don’t Remind Me), synth and new wave sound.
The beginning track Midnight On South Granville reminds me of a New Order/Joy Division track.
Don’t Remind Me has that indie psych surf pop rock sound.
Overall I really dig this album.
If you like catchy indie synth pop rock!
It has that Mint Records vibe to it too. (If you aren’t familiar with their artist roster)
RIYL: New Order, Hooray For Earth, Cousins, Cha Van Gaalen and Animal Collective

Best tracks:

  • Midnight On South Granville
  • Bird Of Prey
  • Broken Glass (In The Hall Of Shattered Mirrors)
  • Nightclubs
  • Sacrifice
  • Surf Don’t Sink
  • Don’t Remind Me
  • Emotional Whiteout

I’d give this album 9/10.
