After the remarkable and insane show at Babylon, I headed to Dom Polski for something different.
I got there and saw two acts play, which were:
When I arrived, Ottawa’s Sound of Lions was already into their set; I got there for the last 2-3 songs.
They never disappoint live, and this time was no different; the audience was loving them.
I was surprised that they did a cover of Ace Of Base’s All That She Wants, and it looked like they were trying to recreate a prom-like style on stage. All this included, it was a great set.

I was most excited to see Montreal’s Socalled, as I’ve never seen him live.
He’s nominated for “World Album” at the Junos.

If you aren’t familiar with his music, it’s a mix of electro and hip-hop with some Klezmer sound.
He had a backing band, with Katie Moore doing backing vocals.
When he started, I couldn’t stop dancing to his music, and man, this was a fun, wild show he put on!
I wasn’t aware that he’s a magician; during the set he brought out a newspaper, ripped it up, and then it appeared in one piece. It was a “oooh wow” moment.
He also showed some puppeteer skills when he brought out his puppet “Tina?”.
During the set, Socalled asked the audience what cover he should do.
There were some requests for “Careless Whispers”, and another one for a song I forget that was requested by Davey of Male Nurse.
Poor Davey, he had to leave and Socalled wasn’t impressed, so a friend of Davey’s gave him a cell to call him, and there was a heated but funny chat.
Overall, this was another great show at JUNOfest’s Friday night, and I was glad to finally see Socalled live!
Here are the rest of the photos.
