After Diamond Rings I headed off to the Kapisanan Phillipine Cultural Centre.
It was a unofficial NXNE kind of event.
I was there to kill some time before heading to the Garrison and of course see Rich Aucoin play in this small venue.
Daps All Ages, Whippersnapper Gallery and Snakes + Ladders help made this show possible.
Sadly I happened to be miss TOPS.
They are members of Silly Kissers who have broken up.
But it was great to see them and I happened to notice Grimes was there.
She is such a nice sweet girl. I wasn’t expecting it at all with all the buzz and her opening up for Lykke Li this year.
About her Saturday will be up later.
Anyways I was there when Moon King was playing.
Basically a trio consisting of Maddy and Dan (from ex-Spiral Beach) and Dan from Hooded Fang.
I haven’t seen Maddy in quite sometime and it was good they are starting up with this band.
Their music was very surf like pop sound.
Rich Aucoin was next and all I can say is he always put on a great set.
There wasn’t alot of people but it was decent to move around and dance around.
Confetti, video screen and parachutes galore!
It was the start to what will happen at the Garrison later that night.
Lastly from all the excitement I caught abit of this Toronto band call Boy Who Say No.
They were really good live with their indie pop rock music.
Apparently the night before they had a big draw at their 918 Bathurst show.
Surprised they haven’t made a stop in Ottawa.
Which is why I will mention about this band.
When I was outside getting.
I had to ask one of their members if he is an actor?
I said “I won’t name the TV show you are in” but then it was either one of the owner of Whippersnapper Gallery or one of the band members said “Oh go ahead and say the name of the show”.
I said Degrassi: The Next Generation and he said he I was in the show and everyone laughed.
For those who don’t know, Mike Lobel played Jay the “bad boy” on the show.
Mike mentioned he left the show before it got really bad.
I said I like the original Degrassi in the 1980s was so much better and the new series is a soap opera.
One of the members said “Mike is going to be in some Disney channel show”.
I get too starstruck so easily :P.
Anyways I thought Boys Who Say No (Somehow I want to say Boys Who Say Noise for a weird reason) are really great band to see live.
Here are the photos.
