“In a Poem Unlimited” byU.S. Girls which is their sixth album and has a prominent 70s disco/rock vibe infused with anger and rage.
The album marks their second release with 4AD and their first with Royal Mountain Records.
Lately, I have been listening to Madonna’s Ray Of Light since it is 20 years old.
While similarities are both different with their musical output but similar when it comes to reinvention and self-realization.
U.S. Girls’ approach to “In a Poem Unlimited” with a full band and a bigger sound suggests a departure or evolution in their musical style.
The reworking of an old track, “Incidental Boogie,” from the EP “Free Advice Column” adds another layer of familiarity for fans.
The album’s blend of a loud electro banger, along with its provocative nature, creates an intriguing combination that not only gets you dancing but also stimulates thought. It seems like U.S. Girls have crafted an album that’s both musically dynamic and intellectually engaging. Enjoy your musical exploration!
About the album:
Poem features dark meditations reflecting charged atmospheres that directly precede and follow acts of violence. Many of the songs are character studies of women grappling with power; how to gain and exert it spiritually, as well as desperate strategies to mitigate its infliction.
Remy also rallies against the public lies told by political and religious leaders, and more crucially, questions the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive.
While U.S. Girls, denoting the plural, is no longer a misnomer, In A Poem Unlimited may be Remy’s most individually distilled protest to date.
