Bluesfest 2009: Day 4

It was a horrible rainy day at RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa.
But the weather didn’t stop people from coming out to listen to the music.

The acts I saw that day were:

United Steel Workers of Montreal

Amazing as always, even with the rain pouring down. I was especially happy to finally hear Tracy Dean perform live.

Giant Hand

They sounded great and kept the music going for the crowd that stuck around despite the rain.

Jill Barber

I finally got a chance to see her live, and she looked absolutely stunning on stage. The dress she wore was beautiful. Her set ended up being a bit short because of the heavy rain, but I loved the moment when she got the audience to sing along to “Oh My My.”

Rachael Yamagata

Her style reminded me a bit of Fiona Apple or Cat Power—moody, soulful, and emotional.

Hey Rosetta!

An amazing band to see live. Their set brought a lot of energy despite the gloomy weather.

Ornette Coleman

It was interesting seeing his performance held inside the Lebreton Gallery where the tanks are displayed at the Canadian War Museum. It actually worked really well as a venue space. I think they should consider hosting more shows in that area.

Matisyahu

It was definitely an interesting experience seeing this Jewish hip-hop artist perform live.

Despite the miserable weather, it still turned out to be another memorable day at Bluesfest. Rain or shine, the music kept people coming out and enjoying the festival.
