My Dad vs Yours, Rolf Klausener and Mike Dubue @ St Brigid’s Centre for the Arts [November 19, 2011]

It was my second night in a row at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts.
This time it was more of an indie, intimate show vibe.
Playing at the show were:

There were lovely video projections by Jeff Denault/Above Clouds.

It’s been awhile since we’ve see My Dad vs Yours play live in Ottawa.
During this time, the band’s music video for Happy Wanderer/Carry The Weight won Best video at the Ottawa International Film Festival 2011.

The show started off with a very special solo performance of Hilotron’s Mike Dubue.
He did a simple acoustic set and had a special guest who did a cello piece, which was beautifully breathtaking to listen to.
Mike asked the audience if anyone wanted to hear a Hilotron’s song, and I shouted out Emergency Street. However, he wasn’t really into playing that song, and considering it’s more of an upbeat electric tune, it made sense, as doing it acoustic would be hard. He did sing one minute of it though!
Someone in the audience (I don’t know if it was a friend of mine or not) shouted out another Hilotron’s song, but Mike couldn’t hear her, so the song didn’t get played.
Overall, it was nice set, and it was one long opener too.

Second was Rolf Klausener of The Acorn.
He played a great set filled with some Acorn songs, and some covers spun in a classic R&B sound.
During the last song they played, I thought that Rolf was channeling Bill Withers, until I asked Adam (who played with Rofl) what the name of the song was – it did happen to be by Bill Withers.

Before My Dad vs Yours went on stage, Luca Furgiuele came out and introduced the music video for Happy Wanderer/Carry The Weight, which he directed.

Then the band came out and played a beautiful set of their music.
I was sitting and drifting back and forth to their set, which, with the added video projection, seemed to transport you to a different world.

Overall, it was a great show.
