Prediction on the shortlist for Polaris Music Prize 2010

UPDATE: CLICK HERE!!!!
I am not a juror member of the Polaris Music Prize (Wish I was).
Click here for the official list plus my prediction on who should win.
But I would like to give my predictions on who I feel or might be on the shortlist for the Polaris Music Prize.
The shortlist will be announced on July 6, 2010.

Here are my 10 predicitons:

  • The Besnard Lakes – The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
  • They were nominated in the inaugural year of Polaris. I haven’t heard the whole album but it is one big epic album.
    Listen to Albatross.

  • Basia Bulat – Heart Of My Own (Review of the album)
  • Another musician who has been nominated.
I have to say I really love her second album and her strongest album to date.
    Listen to Gold Rush.

  • Caribou – Swim (Review of the album)
  • The winner in 2007.
Another fine record he has put out and its far different from Andorra.

  • Holy F**k – Latin
  • Haven’t heard much of it.
But will there be another repeat with another profanity band winning this year’s Polaris??
    Listen to Stilettos.

  • Karkwa – Les Chemins De Verre
  • Haven’t heard much of this album but you know they might be the Malajube of this year’s Shortlist.
Listen to Les Chemins De Verre.
    [audio:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4791237/06%20Les%20chemins%20de%20verre.mp3]

  • Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice (Review of the album)
  • Already getting alot of buzz.
If you like folk rock pop from Dan, this is the album.
Listen to Road Regrets and Robots.

  • The New Pornographers – Together (Review of the album)
  • A step up from Challengers and more of that Twin Cinema sound.
    A very fun record too.
    Listen to Your Hands (Together)
    [audio:https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4791237/03%20Your%20Hands%20%28Together%29.mp3]

  • Owen Pallett – Heartland (Review of the album)
  • Winner of the first Polaris Music Prize.
Why wouldn’t he be nominated again? (Patrick Watson did).
Heartland is more orchestral experimental sound than He Poos Clouds.

  • Shad – TSOL
  • The short list needs a rapper/hip-hop artist on the list.
TSOL is another great fine record and a talented artist.
Could be K’Naan of this year’s Polaris Music Prize.
Listen to Yaa I Get It.
    [audio:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4791237/09%20Yaa%20I%20Get%20It.mp3]

  • You Say Party! – XXXX
  • Would it be for sympathy factor with the loss of their drummer Devon Clifford?
Or they just put out a really great album on the theme of XXXX, I mean LOVE?
Its a change from their last two album but they are solidifying as a band not to reckon with.
Listen to There is XXXX (Within My Heart).

Honorable 5 (Picking five that weren’t on my prediction but there might be a chance they will be on the shortlist)
