I was very excited for this sold out show at Cafe Dekcuf on May 23, 2012.
There was some buzz and excitement surrounding this show.
Considering the headlining band’s debut album won’t drop until July 24, 2012.
I have a feeling that once the album drops, they will definitely explode.
Ottawa was the second date of their tour.
Playing at the show were:
Purity Ring

AGOR

REVIEW OF SHRINES!!
Opening up the show was Montreal’s AGOR.
Since I didn’t do any research to who AGOR was.
It happened to be Alex Cowan who is one half of the indie pop duo Blue Hawaii.
His set was very indie experimental electronica and synth-pop.
It had abit of that European flavor.
Once the music started, I just had to dance.
Being a Ottawa show, some of the audience were kind of shy of dancing.
Afterwards there were some people getting their groove on with the music.
It was nice and fun mini dance-floor kind of set.

I was surprised to see Raphaelle of Braids at the show.
Never seen her dance wholeheartedly.
She is friends with both acts.
I swear if Blue Hawaii opened up for Purity Ring, it would have been a killer show.
Also Cecil of Born Gold was at the show.
It was like a mini Montreal posse.
Finally it was Purity Ring to come on stage.
They had a elaborate setup with lamps, a drum and colored curtains.
Love the use lights to make the electronic and drum sounds.

Purity Ring previewed alot of tracks from the upcoming album “Shrines”.
The songs were amazing and gave me chills down my spine.
Of course I was dancing my butt off to their music.

It was a mix of electro-dreamy pop and trance-like moody music.
They did play the four songs that has been release which were Belispeak, Lofticries, Obedear and Ungirthed.
They didn’t do an encore since they didn’t have alot of songs to sing but the audience wanted a do-over.
It was kind of funny but they were surprised by the reaction.
It was definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen this year.
Those who couldn’t see them, you definitely missed out big time.

Once Shrines drops in July on 4AD (Europe/USA) and Last Gang (Canada), you know the band will explode and play in bigger venues.
Here are the rest of the photos.
Here’s a short clip from the show.
