Samantha Savage Smith & Keturah Johnson @ Raw Sugar Cafe [April 4, 2012]

It was a night of female singer/songwriters at Raw Sugar Cafe on April 4, 2012.
Playing at the show was:
Samantha Savage Smith
Keturah Johnson

Ottawa’s Keturah Johnson started off the show.
She played a nice solo acoustic set of her songs she has written.
Man can she belt out that voice.
I think she really didn’t need to use the mic at all.
If you are into the indie acoustic folk music, then check out her music.
Keturah mentioned that she working on her full-length album and possible on touring.

Next was Calgary’s Samantha Savage Smith.
She is on her North American tour.
She played mostly from the album “Tough Cookie” and some brand new tracks.
It was an nice set she put on.
Nice to see Henry who plays with Friendo is one her backing band members.
Hope she comes back to Ottawa.

Here are the rest of the photos.

I wasn’t able to stay for the entire show, so I do hope Samantha Savage Smith comes back.

As for Keturah Johnson, definitely someone to watch for– powerful voice that she controls well. I hope she continues writing and singing and growing, maybe varying how she uses her voice. I imagine John Lennon started as a shouter to be heard above the crowds in Hamburg dives, but boy did he learn to use his voice and his songwriting talents to good and varied use ( “Imagine”, “Help”, “The Ballad of John and Yoko”, “I’m so Tired”, etc.).

I’ll have to check out Keturah Johnson’s album when it comes out. What a voice– take good care of it!
