The inspiration for “Play It Cool,” came from an awkward encounter with an attractive girl sitting on a park bench in Bangkok.
SEKI decided to try to talk to her. However, it turned out that she couldn’t speak Thai at all and assumed she was Thai like him and at the time his English was terrible.
After stumbling through some really painful exchanges in English, SEKI awkwardly said sorry to her and started walking away, completely embarrassed. SEKI’s whole face turned red!
Writing this song brought SEKI that feeling of secondhand embarrassment. It’s a track that shows the progression of my lyric writing, along with more confident singing than on my past releases.
SEKI tried to showcase his range a little more in “Play It Cool” and there’s a nice big chorus to end the song!
Ultimately, “Play It Cool” has taught SEKI to let go of trying to do everything perfectly.
It’s those little imperfections which actually make the music feel more relatable.
