Went to a nice show at the First Baptist Church on September 3rd.
The music was very eclectic, experimental and brilliant.
It’s been awhile that I stepped foot at the venue for a live show.
Playing at the show:
• Esmerine

• Matana Roberts

• Kingdom Shore

The show started off with Ottawa’s Kingdom Shores.
It was 30 minutes of experimental instrumental noise orchestral avant-garde music.
There was no break and it was very intense and exhilarating set.

Second was Matana Roberts from New York.
This was her first time playing in Ottawa.
Did some research and I was amazed by her repertoire.
She was a replacement for Colin Stetson who was suppose to play but due to a injury.
I was so amazed by her set.
She got the audience to interact by humming along to the song she was playing.
Very similar to Colin Stetson but not as intense and heavy with his music.

Finally it was Esmerine to come on the stage.
I’ve critical raves about this act since one of the members used to play in God Speed You! Black Emperor!
They were promoting the new album Dalmak out on Constellation Records.
What was great about this set was that the band bought in visiting musicians from Turkey who helped out on Dalmak.
All I have to say was OMG! It was such a wonderful set!
Brilliant amazing with their worldly musical sound.
Words can’t explain it!

Overall it was one of those shows that you should have missed at a lovely venue!
Here are the rest of the photos.
