Yesterday was the last day of November in Ottawa, and I headed up to Raw Sugar Cafe to see Kathryn Calder and Himalayan Bear.
It was a pretty nice, standing up intimate show.
Thanks goes to CBC Radio 1‘s Q, where she was a musical guest that same day.
The show started off with Himalayan Bear, from Victoria.
It was just a solo act by Ryan Beattie.
The music was very indie experimental rock, with a touch a lo-fi, and he sang a lot about love.
His set was pretty interesting.
Then it was Kathryn’s turn to play, with a band backing her.
This was my first time seeing her live, having missed her on June 10, 2011.
This was her third date of her “Bright and Vivid” tour (as I like to call it), which is in support of her second album.
My favorite song was “Who Are You?”, which is an upbeat pop track.
Hearing her play live, I felt there was a hint of Neko Case, but it was all her.
It was a nice intimate show she put on.
Totally amazing to experience!
