Pop Montreal 2013: Symposium with Andre Faleiros & Christopher Roberts

The one time at Pop Montreal 2013 that I went to their symposium was on September 26th.
Not just because they had brunch and was totally starving.
But I was kind of curious to check out this one.
Also I love their symposium which isn’t in a stuff conference room and it’s free for the public.

This symposium that I went was called Brunch and Opportunity with Andre Faleiros and Christopher Roberts.
Moderated by Blake Hargreaves.

Here is a blurb:
Two figures whose jobs consist of connecting artists with opportunity get together for a bagel and an intimate discussion about music, diversity, career and what they are really looking for. (Light) Brunch provided by POP.
Andre Faleiros is a bassist, composer, arranger and Head of Artistic Talent Scouts, Instrumentalists at Cirque du Soleil.
Prior to taking over as NXNE’s Festival Director, Christopher Roberts was Head of Artist Relations and Managing Director of the Experiential Department at VICE.

This is what I gathered from this symposium (Sorry if it’s not correct):

  • Andre said “Please delete your crappy videos of your lives shows on Youtube, even the ones that your friends or fans have uploaded. It’s not professional”
  • Christopher said “Please don’t send your demos to record labels”
  • Be passionate and love your music, the audience will tell if you aren’t
  • Don’t take things personal if the band leaves their manager

This was a good symposium, the only thing I didn’t feel compelled was the Circus de Soleil stuff.
