St.Vincent & Cold Specks @ Ritual [December 16, 2011]

Can this be one of the best shows to happen in Ottawa this year?
I am talking about St.Vincent playing at Ritual on December 16, 2011.
When news came out that she will be in Ottawa.
St.Vincent has been on every music magazine cover this year.
Getting great reviews from Pitchfork, The Guardian and Spin with the album “Strange Mercy“.
I think alot of people were surprised considering she would skip Ottawa and play in Montreal and Toronto.

The show started off with Cold Specks.
A duo from London, England/Toronto.
It was a acoustic set Al Spx (who has a nice British accent) put on.
With a band name like that, they have that cold, dark and deep soulful sound.
The first song they play was “Heavy Hands” and it was quiet that you can hear a pin drop.
Afterwards people went on with their usual chatter.
I was impress with their set.

Then with some setting up with St.Vincent’s equipment.
The show started at around 11:30pm.
Then the audience went insane.
Started off with Surgeon.
It was just beyond amazement!
I couldn’t help but sing out loud to Cruel.
In total they sang about 17 songs.

The second last song during the encore, she just went into the crowds with her guitar.
Looked like some of the audience strummed the guitar.
When she came back up on the stage the guitar strings were ripped off.
St.Vincent played a mix of the current album “Strange Mercy” and “Actor”.
Definitely one of the best shows that I attended this year.
