When I heard that Dan Deacon was the secret guest at the Drake Hotel Underground.
I bolted (more like cab) to the venue with a new friend named Frank who works with Consequence of Sound.
Before I got all excited for Dan Deacon, I had to see to see two acts before him.
The first act was Baltimore’s Peals.
They had a unique set-up since it was on the floor and on the right side of the room.
Peals is a band led by William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen (Double Dagger), members of two of Baltimore’s most dynamic live bands.
I was really impressed and enjoying their music.
Their music was instrumental and had that campfire, gentle naturalistic and ambient sound to it.
They sort of remind me of Ferriswheel.
This was the first time I’ve been to the Drake where people actually sat on the floor and being attentive to the music.
One of the best sets I’ve been to at NXNE.
