The third act to play Exclaim.ca‘s showcase at NXNE was Montreal’s Mac DeMarco.
Formerly as Makeout Videotape, the act has been getting some great buzz thanks in part to Pitchfork.
Just saying their set was quite interesting at the Drake Hotel.
The band started right off the bat at around 10:50pm.
I would have expected more of something bizarre or glam-like (If you look at their album covers and music videos).
No it was just normal indie grungey/lo-fi rock set.
Mac did do some “crooning” like style at the last few songs.
Felt more like a hillbilly kind of show the way they were dressed.
There were the occasional silliness from Mac belching on the mic, sitting on the floor playing the guitar, mentioned how he didn’t get any rest and how they will be doing about 10 shows during the festival.
After playing about five or six songs, I noticed that it was 10:10pm.
Looked like Mac really wanted to finish his set but the stage manager was you have alot of time.
It was more like a free-style of what to play.
Overall I really like the set.
